Mt Everest

Origins humble pie
From parentage so bland.
Simple souls with simple goals.
Sprang from South Auckland.
The green,green grass of Tuakau.
Smell onion fields of home.

Strode through life in tune,
Little fanfare,little flair.
No technicolor moon.
To choose the low key profile,
Was an automatic thing.
Humility was in his blood,
Elan,spurned gold ring.

Long and concave chest,self conscious.
Toothy lantern jaw.
Skinny ribs and pallid skin.
A boy would want for more?
Shiny eyes and earnest will.
He gathered up his gear.
And conquered Mt Everest

With no trace of fear.
